It has been found that the swelling and inflammation in nose when you common cold is caused by the molecules known as cytokines or lymphokines. These molecules are produced in the human body for fighting the infection. Many studies have proved that washing away these molecules will help in reducing the swelling. You can add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to eight ounces water for making a saline spray that can help in getting rid of common cold. Gargling with saltwater can be of great help in dealing with common cold.
